Donate to your local shelter without spending a penny!

Many of us want to give back to local shelters, but simply can’t afford it. Here are some tips on how to give back to your local shelter, without spending anything!

1. Volunteer
Volunteering is one of the best ways to give back to a shelter. You can give back even if you’re allergic to animals, volunteers are needed to do many odd and important jobs, such as filing, receptionist services, data entry, cleaning, and much more.  Caring for animals and helping them find a new home is also an important job at a shelter. Volunteering for a shelter could be the best gift to a little puppy.

2. Offer skills
Are you good at designing fliers? Maybe you make dog toys? Offering skills to your local shelter is another way to give back. Also, if you sell collars or dog accessories, donate a few to your local shelter and put a flier up in exchange. People will notice your products and give you more business.

3. Donate gently used items
Shelters usually gladly accept donations! Make sure the items are not too worn out. Some of the most wanted items at shelters are:

  • Toys
  • Leashes
  • Collars
  • Crates
  • Dog Food

Most donations will be accepted at shelters, but make sure to check your local shelter’s rules before donating!

4. Become a foster parent
Foster parenting is basically adopting an animal for a short period of time. An animal may not do well in a shelter, or need time or recuperate from a surgery. Fostering an animal means giving them love and attention for a short amount of time. Even if you cannot fully adopt the animal, you’ll be saving it from the shelter.
