While holiday plants may seem pretty, they can be deadly. Read up and print out our free printable to help keep your pets safe this holiday season!
Poinsettia– The poinsettia’s leaves contain a sap that, when ingested, may cause nausea and vomiting. While your pup may look adorable among the brightly colored red leaves, choose another scene for your holiday card.
Mistletoe and Holly– Poisonous to both dogs and cats, mistletoe contains toxalbumin and pharatoxin viscumin. Holly also contains harmful substances. Keep these plants up and away from your pups, because ingestion may cause severe intestinal upset, a sudden drop in blood pressure, breathing problems, hallucinations, and in severe cases, seizures or death.
Amaryllis– The Amaryllis contains Lycorine and other dangerous substances that can be harmful to your pet. The bulb of the plant is even more dangerous than the flowers, keep these up and away from little noses!
Christmas Tree– Oil produced by fir trees may irritate your pet’s mouth and stomach. The water can also contain harmful substances. We’re not saying to forgo the tree, but sweep up the leaves regularly, keep an eye on your pets, and don’t let them use the tree as a water bowl.
